WHY ROMANIA

ECONOMIC CONTEXT

In the first quarter of 2022, Romania’s economy had a real GDP growth of 5.2%. Thanks to this very strong first quarter, the GDP growth for 2022 was estimated at 4.8% (according to International Monetary Fund data), higher than the EU average – up by 2.7%. For 2023, it is estimated that Romania will have a GDP growth of 2.9%, close to twice the EU estimated average of 1.5% (according to EU data).

  • Romania remains a preferred destination for investors in Eastern Europe, after two years of pandemic and considering the situation in Ukraine. Romania ranked 16th (4%) out of 32 countries in the ranking of the most attractive countries for investments in 2022, surpassing countries such as Hungary (2%) and the Czech Republic (2%) and is close to Poland, whose percentage is 6%.
  • In 2022, 56% of foreign companies intend to establish or expand their operations in Romania, which places this country in fourth place, tied with France and behind Portugal (62%), Lithuania (60%) and the United Kingdom (58%) and is above the European average of 53%.
  • Relocation of companies from Ukraine, and not only. Romania is in a privileged position at the European level regarding the plans of executive leaders to relocate their business support services and supply chain functions in Europe ("reshoring" and "nearshoring" operations) to minimize the impact of future disruptions.

FUNDING

The European assistance packages intended for the member states will help Romania cover the necessary for creating a stable environment, which should attract even more foreign investors and help the development of local companies.

The Romanian authorities have allocated 5.97 billion euros – i.e. 20.5% of the total value for the digitalization projects contained in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, of which:

  • component 4 - Sustainable transport, there is a digital contribution of 864 million euros
  • component 7 - Digital transformation, intended for the reform of the public sector, connectivity and cyber security, 1.81 billion euros are allocated.
  • component 9 - Aid for the business environment, research, development and innovation, with an allocation of 1.06 billion euros
  • component 15 - Education, which aims at reforms and investments for the digitization of the education process, has an allocation of 1.12 billion euros

WHY BRAȘOV

Being positioned in the center of Romania, for Brașov, a great advantage is the accessibility. The city’s position is adjacent to other well-developed regions of Romania, thus making it the most accessible location in Romania.

More than 1.38 billion euros, allocated for the development of Central Region

Brașov is the economic, administrative and cultural center of the Center Region, which in 2021 contributed 12% to Romania’s GDP. The contribution of Brașov County to the Central Region’s GDP was 29.9%.

Funding Priorites:

  • supporting the process of research, development and technological transfer from the regional level in the smart regional specialization areas
  • supporting the digitization process of local public services and SMEs
  • supporting the development of regional SMEs
  • energy efficiency measures for residential buildings and public buildings at the regional level
  • the development of sustainable urban mobility
  • the modernization of the county transport infrastructure, investments in the educational infrastructure at all levels of education
